1) Why should I contact BeHome4Ever, Inc. for an assessment when I can find “free assessments”?
You must understand who is performing the assessment and the motivation behind offering it for free. Many of these free assessments are conducted by builders, remodelers, interior designers, vendors and resellers of products, freelance social workers and therapists attempting to gain your confidence in order to build their revenues. Common sense can recommend installing a grab bar or raising the height of your commode, but does the person assessing your home have the specialized training, education, and experience to understand your unique situation, disease progressions with relation to living at home, and how your performance within the home will change over time? Do they have the metering tools to measure lighting levels, ambient sound levels, temperatures, and planar inclines, all of which can be a factor in performance, an accident, or fall? Do they have extensive product knowledge on a full spectrum of products to meet your activity needs, or do they just recommend one product? Do you get a one size fits all solution explained as "this is what we usually do" or do you get a solution that matches your unique circumstances?
Secondly, they may offer free assessments to get "a foot in the door." They may tell you what you need, and then sell you the services and products to do the job (or that aren't warranted by your situation) and not explain their relationship to the supplier. What if there are less expensive or more appropriate options available to you; will your assessor recommend them over the products and services for which they receive a commission or finder’s fee?
BeHome4Ever, Inc. has no hidden fees or undeclared financial arrangements with the companies it recommends. We do not offer free assessments or use a sliding fee scale; but, we do have low cost safety assessments and we will work with you to afford them.
2) Does BeHome4Ever, Inc. perform the renovations or sell the products it recommends?
No, we do not build nor do we sell products but we do demonstrate monitoring products so that you will understand the product capabilities of the recommendation as it applies to your unique situation. Our purpose is to make sure that any money you spend is well spent and that any products/services you purchase address YOUR needs. Before recommending a product a review of the product manual has been performed and is on file. Where necessary we contact the manufacturer or retailer of the product with our additional questions that are based on the anticipation of what a customer might ask.
3) Do I have to use the builders or retailers that BeHome4Ever, Inc. recommends?
Absolutely not! If you have a contractor in mind or wish a family member to do the work, fantastic. We will work with your choice of remodeler for a low basic hourly rate to hold bid meetings and other meetings/inspections critical to accomplishing your goals. We assume your remodeler choice knows ADA guidelines and Universal Design and Access, and, that you have vetted similar work by them (or have performed an interview of someone not related to them that had a similar job as yours performed by them, prior to contracting them. We do not hire remodelers for you due to mixing insurance liabilities which would increase your legal costs should a law suit be necessary.
If you wish to purchase products from a local retailer, GREAT! You are free to choose whomever you wish. With the monitoring systems we recommend, we offer one hour of free phone technical support paid for by the supplier for a limited time, usually three months, and you should make sure your product selection, if it is different from ours, has the same support. This is why we ask that you use our referral number when ordering the products we recommend. Our supplier for your monitoring system uses this number to inform us of your purchase which triggers the technical support. As a backup to the supplier, it is prudent that you call us or send us an email stating you have installed the system, or, are in the process of doing so. Otherwise, no referral, no technical support. Our goal is that we will do a great job up front in explaining the system and options so you don’t need technical support. If you do not use our product recommendation and a technical issue arises, we can investigate your technical issue and help you past it for a low hourly rate. So you are never alone and without help.
If you do decide to use a “free assessment”, make sure the assessment company has a policy regarding free phone technical support of systems they recommend. If they mention a product hot line, try it like we do before purchasing the product!
