HOW TO START THE CONVERSATION

Compassion, caring, and understanding win the day!

1. Use a familiar example to you and your loved one about someone you know that was in a similar situation and ask how your loved one would deal with it.

2. Make it about you and their recommendations for your participation in their health care needs.

3. Active listening, review options together, and don’t dominate the conversation. Seek help for knowing options.

4. Allow time for your loved one to think and reply to you. Be patient and soft.

5. A servant’s heart is the key to success.
